Adventures

Here we record the adventures that we take as a family, near and far.

Paper Boats

Ever since I was a little boy, I have never been able to figure out how to make a paper boat. Paper airplanes of different kinds were no problem - but boats were a different story.

It turns out that I just needed the right motivation. There's something about your little boy thinking that "Papa can do anything" and begging you to make him a paper boat like his teacher did that motivates you to figure it out. And I did. Today, I successfully made my first paper boat!

Spring Is in the Air

Ahh, it's March, and Spring is in the air, Northwest style...

Lunch

"What would you boys like for supper?"

Ezekiel: "Lunch!"

Perhaps I should rephrase the question.

Pumpkins

The boys sure were excited about the pumpkins that they acquired on the field trip during the Home Missions Conference.

"Papa, when we get home, may we please put my pumpkin in the oven and cook it until it becomes a pumpkin pie?"

If only it were that easy!

Do you know the muffin man?

It started out with the boys singing, "Oh do you know the muffin man" in the back seat as we were waiting for Krysta to come out of the store. Then they graduated to "the Popsicle man." It was some time later, when I heard them sing, "Oh do you know the black man" that I saw the direct corelation to the people walking past our van. Yep, the "ugly man," the "mean man," the "painted man," and the "black man" were all real people passing by. Time to roll up the window!

Pears vs. Momma

Enoch: "I love pears!"

Krysta: "Do you love pears or Momma more?"

Enoch: "Pears"

Ezra (trying to outdo his older brother): "Well I love everyone! Everyone in the whole city!"

Krysta: "Do you love everyone more than food?"

Ezra: (very solemnly): "No"

Target

The other day I made the mistake of wearing a red polo and black pants into Target. Before long I had helped an old lady find the batteries and explained to another shopper that I had no idea when they would stock more raspberry gummies. And then when I asked a sales associate where the diapers and baby wipes were, he muttered something like, "This must be your first day at work." Too bad it wasn't Pay Day.

Mt. Ranier

We took a drive and a hike today and took a picture of the mountain. God blessed us with a beautiful day!

Today I took down the Christmas decorations....

Opportunities to Witness in the Hospital

I praise the Lord for the opportunities that He gives me to witness, even though my health isn't very good. Sometimes the hardest part is getting an audience. So, I figured that I had it made, since someone is required to watch and listen to me 24/7 right now while I'm in the hospital. So, whoever it is on the other side of the camera got to hear me read aloud the first 11 chapters of Proverbs tonight. 😊

Hospital Food

1000015341Well, I lied. The food here is amazing! By default, they start every one on a "healthy" diet, so I had a salad and a reduced-sodium turkey breast for lunch (which was palatable). Then after the doctor came in today, they said they want me as stressed and unhealthy as possible while I'm here so that they can see as many seizures as possible. So I had the best chicken fried steak ever, mashed potatoes and gravy, a roll, a Coke, some veggies, and a huge fudge brownie for supper! The bad news is that I'm not allowed to sleep tonight, and I REALLY feel like sleeping now.

Camp Food or Hospital Food

So I don't get to go to camp this year, but I do get to experience something similar to camp food all next week - hospital food! I look forward to a week of room service, complete with skim milk, reduced flavor jello, iceberg lettuce and low-calorie chocolate cardboard. Actually, I got to / had to experience the hospitals' cooking yesterday, and it was pretty good, at least compared to others.
